Description
The Massachusetts PFAS & Your Health Study is looking for volunteers to come into our office centrally located in Hyannis so our staff can practice our neurobehavioral testing and body measurement protocols. Read more about this below: Our neurobehavioral assessments for children 4-17 years old include around 1.5 hours (less time for older children) of playing memory games, sorting items into categories, solving puzzles, and reacting to photographs. These tests are widely used and our study staff have been trained by a clinical psychologist to administer these assessments. Since this is an extended amount of time, there will be a break in between and snacks provided at the completion. Younger children <9 years will receive a sticker roadmap to help complete as many assessments as possible. Children who express they no longer want to continue can stop at any time. Results will not be reported since this is practice for our staff. Parents who bring their child/children into the office will also be asked to fill out questionnaires about their child/children and this will take around 15 minutes. We are also looking for children (4-17) as well as adults (18+) to practice our body measurements protocols. This will take around 20 minutes. These body measurements include height, weight, hip circumference, waist circumference, blood pressure, and a fancy body scale which calculates advanced measures of body composition (like weight of water, muscle, etc.) using an electrical current. Please let us know if you have any implanted medical/electronic devices since you may not be able to do this measurement. Additional body measurements include arm circumference as well as skinfold measurements. Skinfold measurements involve the study staff measuring a fold of skin from your arm and your back (shoulder blade) using a clamp like device. These body measurements will not hurt, but will require that volunteers partially undress to get to the arm and back shoulder blade. We will ensure your privacy by drawing the blinds and closing the exam room door. If you are interested in volunteering for either or both parts, please contact us at . Our staff are flexible and work around your schedule. If you have any questions, send us an email!
