Overall Job Purpose Statement/s: The job of "Mechanic Assistant " is to assist in a variety of diesel, auto and small engine; to independently perform routine mechanical repair and maintenance work. Essential Job Functions – Mechanic’s Assistant: ● Inputting data into computer log ● Maintain inventory stocked ● Fleet maintenance ● Fuel, grease, lubricate autos, busses, and other internal compensation equipment. Service batteries and other parts. ● Performs safety inspections on vehicles and equipment; performs routine repair work for supervisor. ● Change and repair tires, install and service batteries, spark plugs, light bulbs, fan belts and other simple mechanical parts. ● Change and repair tires, install and service batteries, spark plugs, fan belts and other simple mechanical parts. ● Assist the mechanics in the performance of mechanical repairs as required. ● Pick up and auto/bus parts, supplies and vehicles. ● Repair minor vehicle damage; replace broken windows; touch up minor scrapes and dents; clean, sew, repair upholstery. ● Repair and overhaul various grounds equipment such as hand and power tools, tractors, blowers, etc. ● Repair and adjust electric generators, small gas and electric motors, air compressors, fuel and water pumps. ● Clean garage, dump trash, sweep floors ● Perform a variety of operations and maintenance duties which involve working with combustibles, asbestos or other hazardous materials and may require the appropriate use of safety equipment and disposal procedures. ● Perform related duties as assigned. Essential Job Requirements - Qualifications: ● Experience Required: One year of experience maintaining and servicing automotive equipment as well as farming equipment. ● Knowledge on 2 stroke and 4 stroke engine ● Basic computer skills ● Logging in data in fleet maintenance software Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: ● Ability to stand for prolonged periods, inspect and service buses. Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping/crouching, reaching/handling, hearing conversations and other sounds (air leaks, rattles, etc.) near/far visual Kendall Farms Shop Mechanic Assistant acuity/depth perception. Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance Other Job Functions: ● Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. ● Fuels assigned vehicles for the purpose of maintaining vehicles in a safe operating condition. Job Requirements - Qualifications: ● Experience Required: 1-2 years of experience in basic in Farm Equipment Vehicles and Machinery ● 1-2 years of experience with 2 and 4 stroke engines ● Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: Skills to operate delivery vehicles, trucks, Atvs, and other other company equipment in a safe manner, communicate effectively, and meet deadlines, plan and organize activity.. Knowledge of vehicle operation, basic maintenance requirements and driving codes. Abilities to sit for prolonged periods, understand and carry out oral and written instructions; maintain order;work independently, make common sense decisions in potentially critical situations. Significant physical abilities include climbing/balancing, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/visual accommodation. Education Required: ● High School diploma or equivalent. ● Valid Class C Driver’s License (CDL is a plus)
