Description

Are you curious about fermentation, but not sure how to get started? Questions about the safety and nutritional value of fermented foods? Did you know that fermentation is one of the oldest forms of food preservation, and that any fruit or vegetable can easily be pickled through a natural fermentation process? In this 1-hour introductory fermentation class, you will taste a variety of homemade pickles, learn about the fermentation process, and create your own jar of lacto-fermenting veggies. We will address common questions and concerns about the safety and nutritional value of fermented foods and discuss the difference between vinegar "quick-pickles" and traditional lacto-fermented pickles. This class is accessible to all ages and children are encouraged to attend! All necessary materials will be provided. Contact Sharon Spivak ([email protected]) with questions about the class. BOSLab (Boston Open Science laboratory) is a Cambridge, MA based nonprofit dedicated to making science accessible to everyone through education, outreach, and hands-on discovery.
