Halloween Party to celebrate the life of Charlotte Wilson! Split the Pot, Halloween Costume Contest, Silent Auction Baskets, Door Prizes! On February 4th of 2020, Charlotte was in the care of an in-home babysitter. During her care Charlotte was shook and started to seize. She had stopped breathing at one point. She was taken to Cincinnati Children's Hospital where she almost died. She had to be intubated and she continues to have seizures. We were in the hospital for 10 days. During that time she had numerous scans. MRI's, EEG's, Cat Scans, hearing checks, vision checks, physical therapy, and speech therapy. Prior to the event, Charlotte was eating from a spoon, so close to sitting up on her own, and was rolling over. After the event, Charlotte had forgotten how to do all of that. Her left side of her body was not moving in equal movements to her right. Over the course of the 10 days in the hospital we had so many scares. She continued to have seizures. We were also fighting the battle with Child Protective services. They had us under a microscope checking us out as well. We were cleared before we left the hospital for Charlotte to be alone in our care. Charlotte's left eye was blown and we were unsure if she was going to be able to see out of her eye. There was discussion of doing surgery to remove the blood clot. We were able to find the right combination of seizure medication and were finally released to go home. At 7 months old Charlotte started to develop breasts. So we had to start seeing and Endocrinologist. The brain injury occurred on the part of the brain that controls hormones. Charlotte is now required to be on thyroid medication to prevent early puberty. She is currently on weekly speech therapy. Charlotte has come a long way. We have been able to successfully wean her off of her seizure medication. She has been discharged from physical therapy. Her eye has fully recovered - no surgery required. She is still currently on weekly speech therapy and she still sees her Endocrinologist every 3 months. Charlotte has recently had a seizure while sleeping. So we are still actively monitoring her for seizures. We don't know if she will fully recover or if there are going to be any lasting delays until she grows older. The brain is amazing in the sense that it can rewire itself. However there may be delays to go along with it. We are holding this fund raiser to help pay for her future medical expenses, future education expenses, and to help raise money for Mental Health Awareness for parents and caregivers regarding Shaken Baby Syndrome. Please donate or come to our event to enjoy the life that Charlotte has the chance to live and to help raise awareness.
