• Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, greens; the seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; the planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs, and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation system, including wells, pumps, and automatic controls. • Supervises chemical applications and/or operates and calibrates chemical application equipment; supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems. • Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety, personnel discipline. • Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment. • Preparation of clear and concise reports; and to maintain effective employee and public relations. • May require current state certification or licensing as a chemical applicator. The golf Course Assistant Superintendent must be able to: • Promote player satisfaction through quality maintenance and communications. • Thoroughly assist in all safety training needs and procedures. • Orientates each individual crewmember to obtain a thorough understanding of their job classification, objectives, and duties. • Works with the Superintendent and other key staff members to constantly improve the golf course, club grounds, maintenance facility and compound, plus all safety programs. • Help schedule and supervise the daily operations of the maintenance crew. • Train, motivate and supervise the staff in a capable manner. • Oversees the cleanliness of the golf course equipment and maintenance facility, including the entire compound. • Stays in constant contact with the Superintendent regarding controlling the budget. • Assists the Superintendent with record keeping for supplies, daily logs, application records, and weather conditions. • Is capable of the proper application of pesticides and fertilizers. • Have a strong understanding and continue to expand in turf grass culture, course conditioning, course construction and reconstruction, and up to date rules of golf, the proper use of fertilizers and pesticides as well as staying up to date on new golf course equipment, including irrigation equipment. • Expert at identifying water drought stress areas on turf grass • Ability to perform mathematic calculations especially fractions and calibration techniques. • Possess good organizational skills • Ability to visually inspect golf course conditions and report findings. • Have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a motor vehicle. • May be required to work in an environment that includes such activities as bending, lifting, stooping, kneeling, climbing, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and grasping for up to 5 hours without sitting. May need to lift, up to 100 lbs. occasionally and up to 50 lbs. frequently. Send resume in Microsoft Word format. Only qualified applicants will receive a response.
