Description
Join us for a short, casual walk at Effie Yeaw Nature Center for some sunshine, conversation and community. We've missed being outside con la comunidad. Come join us for a casual walk at Effie Yeaw Nature Center inside Ancil Hoffman Park. We'll be starting early to beat the heat on trails that are safe for the whole family. We'll be exploring the history, plants and animals that make the Effie Yeaw Nature Preserve special, and introduce the activity of nature journaling, an activity that anyone can do anywhere. Some important things to remember: Bring plenty of water, sun protection (hat, sunscreen, protective clothing) and a light lunch. We will be providing light snacks. There is a $5 per car parking fee that must be paid when entering the park. The machine takes debit card or exact change and you must display your ticket on your car dashboard. There is a access to the American River but it is far from the parking lot. Bring water shoes IF you'd like to walk on the slippery river rocks and cool off. This outing will be hosted by Latino Outdoors volunteers: Liz Lopez, Biologist born and raised in Sacramento. Esme Cabrera, Certified California Naturalist and recent Bay Area to Sacramento transplant. Alejandra Espinoza, Geologist Due to recent increases in Covid transmissions, please remember to bring your masks so we can protect each other. Latino Outdoors is a unique Latino-led organization. We are working to create a national community of leaders in conservation and outdoor education. As part of this work, we are focused on expanding and amplifying the Latino experience in the outdoors; providing greater opportunities for leadership, mentorship, professional opportunities and serving as a platform for sharing cultural connections and narratives that are often overlooked by the traditional outdoor movement. It is a space for the community to be present, share their voices, and showcase how conservation roots have been ingrained in Latino cultura for generations. The Central Valley team currently has volunteers in the areas of Sacramento, Stockton and Modesto. Please feel free to contact us at [email protected]
