Discover the fundamentals of winemaking, wine styles, and how to evaluate wine (“wine drinking” vs. “wine-tasting”). This four-session course includes all wine and instruction for four sessions. Tuesday | AUG 24 SESSION 1 - "Beautiful Basics": We run down the fundamentals of what wine is, winemaking, grapes and what that means to you. We also explore basic wine grapes, their styles, and types. Wednesday | AUG 25 SESSION 2 - "Old World vs New": We disucss the enigmatic concept of 'terroir' or 'somewhereness' inherrent in #realwine and discuss the different factors that affect a wine's expression and style. We compare and contrast the same-type of wine from different places around the globe and explore why they're 'same same but different'. Thursday | AUG 26SESSION 3 - "Dropping Acid" : Although one of the four fundamentals characteristics of wine, Acid, what gives wine its freshness, is little understood. Here we explore the role of acidity in wine, where it comes from, what it does, and taste a variety of wines that prominently feature this most important trait in wine. Friday | AUG 27SESSION 4- "What's in a Blend": We explore what is meant by a 'blend', what is achieved through blending, and why the term is problematic while tasting a variety of new and traditional blends from around the world. Registration is required prior to the start date and time of Seminar.
