Description

Women's Equality Day! Celebrate the 101st anniversary of the 19th amendment, giving all U.S. Women the constitutional right to vote. Women's Equality Day is August 26th, commemorating the 19th amendment added to the U.S. Constitution in 1920. Over 70 years of struggle, for three generations of women, culminated in FIRST legal guarantee for women. We have much more to accomplish, but this was the vital first step. Join us for this celebration and fundraiser for the National Women's Political Caucus-STL, with a mission to recruit, train, and elect women candidates! Suggested attire is 'suffrage white.' There will be a contest for the best suffragist outfit, so historical flourish is encouraged. We will have a special appearance by Sojourner Truth, giving her famous "Ain't I a Woman" speech from 1851. Tribute artist Tia Adkins, portrays Sojourner at 6 p.m. There will be a table with books for sale: Living My tRuth: Personal Reflections on the Legacy of RBG to be signed by caucus member Rebecca Now. Books will be available for sale for $15.00, of which $5 for each book sold goes the the National Women's Political Caucus - STL EMPAC fund (which helps endorsed women candidates). Wine, soft drinks, appetizers and cake will be part of the celebration. For the health and safety of attendees, this event is open to those who have been vaccinated for Covid 19. Vax cards may be asked for at the door. We are working on a photo opportunity with an antique car. Details to follow as we firm this up. This event is organized by Rebecca Now.
