PEABODY, MA — This year's Peabody West Little League All-Star team is writing another chapter in the storied history of the program. The 12-year-old All-Stars became the latest in the program to win a state championship with a 6-5 victory against Pittsfield on Sunday afternoon in Gloucester. Peabody West now travels to Bristol, Connecticut to begin the New England Championships starting on Saturday. The Connecticut games will be broadcast either on ESPN or the ESPN+ app (subscription required). Peabody West last won the Massachusetts and New England Championships in 2009. Peabody West reached Sunday's final with an 8-0 victory against Needham on Saturday. The All-Stars then had to dig out of an early hole on Sunday when Pittsfield scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning. But they rallied in a big way with five runs in the top of the second to take the lead for good. Peabody West had the bases loaded with no outs when Gabriel Casiano hit an RBI single and Jimmy DiCarlo followed with a bases-clearing double for a 4-2 lead. DiCarlo then stole third and scored on a passed ball for a 5-2 lead heading to the bottom of the second. Pittsfield got one run back in the second, but Thad Broughton's double and Aidan Horgan's RBI single restored the three-run lead. DiCarlo's diving catch at shortstop preserved the lead in the fourth after Pittsfield cut the gap to 6-5. DiCarlo made another nice play to help close it out in the seventh behind the pitching of Cullen Pasterick. Did you find this article useful? Invite a friend to subscribe to Patch.
