NEW YORK CITY — A jab-for-job mandate is coming for prospective New York City public workers. Amid a flurry of coronavirus vaccine and mask measures announced Monday, Mayor Bill de Blasio unveiled a new requirement for would-be city workers. "Effective immediately: every single new person hired by the City of New York, before they report to work, they must provide proof of vaccination," he said. "Every new employee must provide proof of vaccination, or they cannot start their new job. Period. As a pure vaccine mandate for new employees, we will have, as I said, continued updates, continued announcements, but this is another step as we intensify the vaccination effort." Effective immediately, every new City government worker hired MUST provide proof of vaccination before they can begin their job.By getting vaccinated, a world of opportunity opens up for you. The city's vaccine-or-test mandate helped open a floodgate of similar rules across the city, state and nation. Such measures are designed to fight the highly contagious delta variant of coronavirus, which has prompted new cases in the city to quadruple in a month.
