Help us make a dent in removing the invasive plants that are strangling our forest and the trash that has been dumped over the decades.
The Hazelwood Greenway has been neglected for the last 40 years and needs help to get back into a healthy state of biodiversity that will allow it to both provide residents with a quality greenspace close to home for physical and mental health, and help the community--and Pittsburgh as a whole--be more climate resilient.
The Hazelwood Greenway is the largest greenway in the city of Pittsburgh at 183 acres. In July, thanks to the support of Councilman Corey O'Connor, we were able to enlist a crew of goats from Allegheny Goatscape to help us with removing a large stand of knotweed. However, there is still much more to be done--especially to remove the heavy grape and bittersweet vines that are weighing down are trees and making it more likely for them to fall down during a heavy windstorm.
Gloves, tools and bags will be provided. Please wear sturdy shoes that cover your toes. Long sleeves, pants, a hat, and sunglasses are also recommended for your protection.
This event is for adults, but mature teens may also join to help with the trash cleanup.
