ANDOVER, MA — The community is invited to take part in a dedication at the Ballardvale Green to honor a man who has played a significant role in serving the Andover community for the last several decades.
The upcoming event, scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 3, will recognize Richard J. Bowen, who served Andover as its second town manager.
Bowen is also a military veteran. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17 and served the country during World War II.
He went on to graduate from Colby College in 1951 and the Wharton School of Business in 1953. In 1963, Bowen moved to Andover to serve as its second town manager.
Bowen later served as a public defender as well as the first chairman of the Ballardvale Historic District Commission.
Bowen continues to reside in Andover.
The dedication will take place at 12 p.m. at the Ballardvale Green as the town thanks and honors Bowen for his years of service to Andover.
