2nd Arrest After Six Shot At Perth Amboy Bar

PERTH AMBOY, NJ — The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office announced it has now made a second arrest in the shooting of six people at a Perth Amboy bar on July 19. All of those shot survived. Police charged Alexander Corniel, 27, of Perth Amboy, with the shooting. They also say Kenneth Rivera-Roman, 29, also of Perth Amboy provided Corniel with the handgun. At 12:40 a.m. on July 19, authorities responded to the El Patio Bar located at 417 Fayette Street following the report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located six people total who sustained non-fatal gunshot wounds. Police say Corniel attempted to fatally shoot a man known to him in the area surrounding the bar. Police say he hit his intended target and five bystanders were struck by the gunfire. On July 23, Corniel was arrested in the Bronx by members of the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Unit, the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force, the Perth Amboy Police Department, and the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office. He was charged with six counts of first-degree attempted murder, one count of second-degree possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose, and five counts of second-degree aggravated assault. Last Thursday, Rivera was arrested and charged with second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, second-degree aggravated assault, and second-degree conspiracy to commit aggravated assault.
