TOMS RIVER, NJ — Toms River police were urging residents to shelter in place Monday night while they searched for a woman who was said to be suicidal and armed with a handgun. Police were searching for the woman in a wooded area behind the Edgewood apartments, off Lakehurst Road, and along the access road that runs along the power lines behind the Silver Ridge Apartment complex, police said. Police asked residents Monday night to shelter in place, but it was not known whether that order would remain in place Tuesday morning.
