Workers At University Hospital Included In NJ Vaccine Mandate

NEWARK, NJ — Employees at some health care facilities in New Jersey will soon be required to be fully vaccinated or take weekly COVID-19 tests, including those at University Hospital in Newark, state officials announced Monday. The list includes hospitals, correctional facilities, long-term care and assisted living facilities, specialty hospitals, in-patient rehab facilities, behavioral health facilities and memorial homes, Murphy said during a news conference. If they choose, health care facilities will still be able to require their employees to be fully vaccinated and not offer a testing alternative, officials said. "Our mandate is the floor," Gov. Phil Murphy said. "If we do not see significant increases in vaccination rates among the employees in these settings, we are ready and willing to require all staff to be vaccinated as a condition of their employment." Murphy's office shared a list of impacted state facilities, which included University Hospital in Newark, the the site of the first COVID-19 vaccination clinic in the state.
