NEWPORT COUNTY, RI — As the delta variant of COVID-19 continues to spread in Rhode Island and across the country, health experts at the state and national level continue to urge everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated. Newport County is the only Rhode Island county without "substantial" COVID-19 transmission, according to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The county is currently designated "moderate." Statewide, 78.9 percent of eligible Rhode Islanders have received at least one vaccine dose, while 72 percent are fully vaccinated. As of Sunday, 67 percent of resident have received at least one dose, while 64.4 percent were fully vaccinated.
