FRESNO, CA — Jacqueline Flores was sitting in her parked vehicle in Fresno with her 6-year-old daughter last week when a bullet flew through the rear windshield, whizzed past the child in the backseat and struck Flores in the head — she died three days later. Authories said the incident could be a case of mistaken identity, according to a news release from the Fresno Police Deartment. Flores, 25, fought for her life in a local hospital in the days following the shooting, but ultimately succumbed to her injuries. The child was not injured in the incident, but the bullet did enter the back window beside where the child was seated, police confirmed. "Investigators do not believe that Flores was the intended target, and this senseless act of violence may have been a case of mistaken identity," police said. Police sought the public's help this week and urged anyone with information to contact the Fresno Police Department or submit related photos or videos to their online evidence portal. Flores died in the same week that two people — a 19-year-old man and a 18-year-old woman — were fatally shot in a Southern California movie theater as they watched "The Forever Purge." Anthony Barajas, a TikTok star, clung to his life for nearly a week before he died of his injuries — also a gunshot to the head. Rylee Goodrich, his female friend, died at the scene.
