Description
CHICAGO — A tractor-trailing carrying about 34,000 pounds of silicon rubber materials flipped over on eastbound Interstate 94 early Monday morning. Lane closures were needed for almost three hours while emergency crews worked to get the trapped driver out.
The semi rolled over at South Canalport Avenue at around 5:15 a.m., according to Illinois State Police. The length of the truck blocked three lanes of traffic, with crews blocking the remaining lane, until about 7 a.m., when two lanes were opened to allow some traffic to flow through. All four lanes were not opened until 7:45 a.m., officials said.
State police said the driver suffered minor injuries as a result.
The silicon rubber materials along with an "unknown (nonhazardous) fluid" stayed inside the trailer at all times, even when it was on its side, according to an email from an ISP spokeswoman.
