Press release from UNC Greensboro Athletics: 7/31/2021 10:46:00 AM Story Links GREENSBORO, N.C. -- UNC Greensboro men's golfers Zack Swanson, Symon Balbin, Noah Connor, and Justin Emmons were named as Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars, the Golf Coaches Association of American (GCAA) announced late Friday afternoon. To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a sophomore, junior, or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their associate degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 40-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university. Swanson played 12 rounds and averaged 74.42 during the past season. He had a low round of 69 and a top finish of ninth. Swanson, who was named SoCon Golfer of the Week on April 27, opened the season at the Ross Collegiate Classic shooting 74-72-74 (+4). He tied a season-best (+4) in the Southern Conference Championship with a 73-74-74 performance. In earning All-SoCon honors, Balbin led the Spartans shooting 73.61 in 18 rounds across six tournaments. His lowest round was a 69 at the Irish Creek Championship. Balbin opened the season shooting 72-73-74 (+3) at Savannah Harbor. He posted a season-low 72-71-75 (+2) at the General Hackler Championship. Connor made four appearances in 12 rounds and finished with a 75.5 stroke average. He shot a low round of 70 at the Ross Collegiate Classic, where he was one under and placed fourth overall. Emmons had a stroke average of 75.17 in 12 rounds. He had a top finish of eighth and a shot a season-low round for the Spartans of 68 at Savannah Harbor where he finished one-over-par. Earlier in July, the Spartan program was also honored with Presidents Special Recognition for having a team GPA of over 3.5. The Spartans were one of 41 Division I and four Southern Conference programs to earn the honor. It marked the 11th consecutive year that the Spartans earned academic accolades from the GCAA and the first time in program history that the men's golf program earned the Presidents Special Recognition.
