Press release from UNC Greensboro Athletics: 7/30/2021 11:33:00 AM Story Links GREENSBORO, N.C. – Isaiah Miller signed a contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves following the conclusion of the 2021 National Basketball Association draft, which was held on Thursday evening at the Barclays Center. Contract terms were not immediately available. The deal was confirmed by multiple sources including Miller, who tweeted his appreciation for becoming part of the Timberwolves organization. They were the only NBA team that did not have a pick in the draft. The organization traded veteran guard Ricky Rubio to Cleveland prior to the draft. In exchange Minnesota received Taurean Prince, a 2022 second-round pick, and cash. Miller leaves UNCG as one of the most decorated players in program history. Among the following distinctions, Miller is the: The first UNCG student-athlete to be named the Bob Waters Southern Conference Male Athlete of the Year. The only UNCG men's basketball player to appear in two NCAA Division I tournament games. The only UNCG men's basketball player ever selected to compete in the Great Clips Slam Dunk Championship at famed Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis this season. The only men's basketball student-athlete in the 100-year history of the SoCon to be named Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in consecutive years. The 6-0 guard led the SoCon in scoring this season with 19.2 points per game and steals with 2.6 per game and finished eighth in rebounding at 6.8 per contest, helping the Spartans win SoCon regular-season and tournament titles and earning Most Outstanding Player honors at the 2021 Ingles Southern Conference Basketball Championship presented by General Shale Brick. With Miller leading the way this past season, UNCG won 21 contests and finished 12th in the final Mid-Major Top 25 poll. Miller helped UNCG win 100 games during his four-year career – including a program-record 29 in 2018-19, when the Spartans were the No. 1 seed in the National Invitation Tournament – and finished second in SoCon history with 315 career steals and third in UNCG history with 1,967 career points. He was part of four 20-win seasons and became the first player to lead the league in scoring and win the tournament championship in the same season since Davidson's Steph Curry in 2007-08. This season, the Covington, Georgia native was a finalist for the Lou Henson Award, presented annually to the top mid-major player, and the Lute Olson Award, which goes to the top player in Division I. In addition to earning All-America honors in association with both of those awards for the second straight season, he was a member of the Lefty Driesell Defensive All-America Team for the second time in as many years. Miller also earned first-team All-District 21 honors from the NABC and was a USBWA All-District III selection. He was the SoCon Player of the Week presented by GEICO for the final week of the regular season and was named the SoCon Player of the Month for February.
