Over twelve years and five albums, a passionate fan base has experienced this band as a precious commodity that they want to keep close to their hearts. One reason for this can be found in lead singer Justin Ringle’s distinctive voice, at once vulnerable and piercing, and in the quality of the music: gorgeous, lush string arrangements surrounding stark, visceral lyrics whose bite makes a piquant juxtaposition to the surrounding beauty. An indie folk band from Portland, Oregon, Horse Feathers consists of singer/songwriter Justin Ringle (acoustic guitar, vocals, percussion) and a rotating cast of supporting musicians, often including multi-instrumentalist Peter Broderick, cellists Heather Woods Broderick and Catherine Odell, and violinist Nathan Crockett. Nolan is part of the current California Gold rush of female Singer-Songwriters that bring old-time music to new audiences with fresh tales. Her music follows the touchstones of Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris, and Dolly Parton. Rosy delivers hymns, ballads, and folk melodies with a mesmerizing rawness that sweeps up her audiences. Landing a performance at the renowned Stagecoach Festival in 2020 solidifies her legitimate place in Country Folk music but it did not happen overnight. For years Nolan has dug deep into honing her craft by frequenting many old-time music jams, banjo twangs, and partnering in a traditional bluegrass duo called Old Time Machine. In addition, Nolan is a veteran of touring nationally and internationally grabbing new fans from quite different landscapes like London, New York, and Northern California.
