Description

The Fourth Annual Iredell County Walk for Recovery will be on Sunday, September 12, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Troutman’s ESC Park. "RECOVERY IS FOR EVERYONE: Every Person, Every Family, Every Community." The 4th Annual Iredell County Walk for Recovery will be on Sunday, September 12, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Troutman’s ESC Park (338 North Avenue behind Town Hall). The 2019 in-person event event attracted over 750 people, and we hope to exceed that number this year as we spread the world about recovery, prevention, treatment and education assistance related to substance use and mental illness issues. This event is part of the National Recovery Month campaign, sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). This free, family-friendly event, featuring a concert by The Audiophiles (music from 1970s through today), will celebrate the hope and healing that comes with recovery. PLEASE register for the event to help us with food purchasing counts! We don't want to run out! EVENT DETAILS This FREE event features entertainer The Audiophiles rocking out a wide variety of danceable songs along with Billy Buck of WAME radio serving as emcee. The “walk” around ESC Park to visit vendors will also be held to honor those in recovery. As attendees walk around the field visiting vendors, they should be sure to complete punch cards at each booth to be eligible for prize drawings! Several speakers will also share their personal recovery stories. Kids’ activities include face painting, magician, balloon animals , dance troupe, splash pad, and other games. Recovery stories, free t-shirts (while they last), and information booths about substance use and mental health treatment, education, recovery, and support services (with kid-friendly activities and giveaways) will also make for a fun-filled afternoon. A free catered dinner of hamburgers, hotdogs, and side items, prepared and provided by G4G Ministries will also be served. 2021 SPONSORS We wish to thank the sponsors for this year's event: (Platinum Level) Drug-Alcohol Coalition of Iredell, Partners Health Management, Piedmont HealthCare, PQA Healthcare Inc., Southern Family Medicine (Gold Level) Addiction Recovery Medical Services (ARMS), Fifth Street Ministries, Iredell Free News, WAME. ABOUT NATIONAL RECOVERY MONTH Each September, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, sponsors National Recovery Month (Recovery Month) to increase awareness and understanding of mental and substance use disorders, and celebrate the individuals living in recovery. This Year's National Recovery Month Theme: RECOVERY IS FOR EVERYONE: Every Person, Every Family, Every Community. Now in its 32nd year, Recovery Month celebrates the gains made by those in recovery, just as we celebrate improvements made by those who are managing other health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, and heart disease. Each September, Recovery Month works to promote and support new evidence-based treatment and recovery practices, the emergence of a strong and proud recovery community, and the dedication of service providers and community members across the nation who make recovery in all its forms possible. The observance will work to highlight inspiring stories that help thousands of people from all walks of life find the path to hope, health, and wellness.
