Press release from the Arapahoe County Government: July 30, 2021 2021 Arapahoe County Fair shatters previous attendance record First Front Range fair of the year hosts almost 37,000 visitors The Arapahoe County Fair rebounded from its COVID-related cancellation in 2020 by welcoming a record-breaking 36,854 attendees to the four-day event. This was about 10,000 more visitors than the previous record high, which was set in 2019. A single-day record of 15,722 people entered the Fairgrounds on Saturday, which forced Fair organizers to stop admitting new visitors around 8 p.m. County and public safety officials concluded that the crowd and traffic volume in and around the site made it too risky to safely admit more people should an emergency occur. Out of an abundance of caution, the decision was made to halt new entries, and any unused Saturday tickets were honored on Sunday. Conversations with Commissioners focus on Open Space Sales and Use Tax Arapahoe County's Open Spaces are among our most treasured assets. From parks to trails to waterways, these amenities enhance the quality of life throughout the County. The Open Space Sales and Use Tax—which dedicates one-quarter of one cent from retail sales in the County to maintaining these spaces and programs—will soon be up for reauthorization by our voters. Each County commissioner will be joined by officials from Open Spaces and from our communities to discuss the many ways our residents and visitors benefit from a robust Open Spaces program. At the time of the event listen in and ask questions by calling 855-436-3656 or watching online at www.arapahoegov.com/townhall. Public health officials: The pandemic isn't over Officials from the Tri-County Health Department are cautioning residents and visitors that the pandemic risk in the Denver Metro area has not passed, despite the recent lifting of restrictions. Tri-County Director John Douglas cites the emerging Delta variant as cause for concern. The variant is responsible for the vast majority of new cases and hospitalizations across the United States, and it has caused some communities and regions to reinstate measures such as indoor mask mandates. Experts agree that the variant is much more contagious than other strains of COVID-19. lIiff avenue corridor project begins in August Arapahoe County Public Works and Development (PWD), along with contractor partner Concrete Express Inc., will begin the $25.64 million Iliff Avenue Corridor Improvement Project between South Parker Road (CO 83) and Quebec Street this week. Once complete, this highly anticipated project will greatly improve this essential two-mile throughfare in Arapahoe County. Planned improvements to Iliff Avenue include: a four-lane corridor with acceleration and deceleration lanes, intersection safety modifications, bike lane and additional ADA-compliant sidewalk installations, transit stop enhancements, multi-use path/crosswalk improvements, traffic signal optimization with signal detection and video monitoring, and equipment upgrades. Motorist and pedestrian safety measures and increased multi-modal access also highlight the enhancements being made to this heavily traveled East-West corridor.
