LIVERMORE, CA — Firefighters contained a brush fire off Interstate 580 near Livermore on Saturday. The blaze burned through at least 30 acres of vegetation, fire officials said. The fire, reported around 1:45 p.m., clogged traffic on the Altamont Pass throughout the afternoon as firefighters worked to quell the flames. Crews halted the fire's forward progress around 2:30 p.m. "Traffic is very congested on the Altamont please drive safe through the area," Cal Fire and Alameda County Fire officials tweeted. The fire quickly swelled from 10 to 30 acres within a few hours, prompting officials to request aircraft assistance. Firefighters officially contained the blaze at around 2:50 p.m. and asked Altamont commuters to drive carefully. Officials added that personnel would be working to mop up the fire for the next three to four hours.
