Basement Lounge open at 6pm The movements of KUNZITE’s Mike Stroud and Agustin White have seen them orbiting around each other, occasionally crossing paths yet consistently admiring each other’s work. The pair traversed the globe separately with their different projects and personal adventures -- Mike touring with his band Ratatat and Agustin on a spiritual journey exploring yoga, meditation and psychedelics -- while looking to one day do something together. The formation of KUNZITE saw them finally able to merge their minds and mission, with their music being an open channel to the cosmos. Creating their own distinct sound by blending psychedelia with electronic, beat-heavy production, and live instrumentation, KUNZITE strike all dimensions of harmony on their new album VISUALS, releasing in the Summer 2021 via Lowly. / Wilder Records. Crafting their new music was effortless and relaxing, which helped them emit the positive vibes that you hear on the final album. New York-based Stroud and Hawaii & Oregon-based White found themselves writing and recording most of the new album together, unlike their 2018 debut album Birds Don’t Fly which was recorded mostly via electronic teleportation (aka email). Many of the new tracks started while at Agustin’s stripped back studio in Hawaii, inspired by the island vibes (and perhaps some microdosing), and were finished at Mike’s barn studio in upstate New York. VISUALS features a variety of instrumentation found in their studios including acoustic, electric and lap steel guitars, organ, synthesizers and the charango. The early songs released from the album, “SATURN,” “NOVAS” and “JUPITER,” take listeners on a journey of movement-generating arrangements -- the latter of which was recorded while the guys launched themselves into the abyss via trampoline -- and KUNZITE paired the songs with equally enthralling and captivating visuals. Throughout the album, the guys found that their best vocals are when their voices come together in the atmosphere and meet in harmony. However, on the summer-y and feel-good “FROSTY,” Mike takes over the rare lead vocal which is at the heart of one of the album’s standout tracks. Album opener “LEMON SWAYZE” was created with the mission of bringing listeners to their feet, dancing in exaltation while on a crazy joyride. The track’s title was inspired by a vision Agustin had of lemons as spaceships, induced by the consumption of a favorite cannabis strain, Lemon Cake. After this summer’s initial digital release, VISUALS will be available on vinyl in late 2021 in alignment with KUNZITE'S live show rolling out, which assuredly will bring us all to our feet. Kunzite
