Description

Are strikes & unions still the hope for the working class? Do today's low wage workers face the same hot issues as NY cabbies in the 1930s? Kansas City low-wage workers take stage in an innovative production of Clifford Odets’s one-act play where the issues faced by New York cab drivers in the 1930s parallel many of the struggles, risks, and high emotion of their own in the fight for $15/hour and a union. A talk back with audience follows performance. The project brings trained theater individuals (directors, stage managers, actors, etc.) together as facilitators with a cast of low-wage workers — volunteers all. It is produced by The KC Community Huddle, a partnership-based group that supports local initiatives toward social justice and is a program of the Social Justice Task Force of Trinity United Methodist Church.
