Grammy-nominated Jamaican singer Etana returns to Philadelphia promoting her latest album, Pamoja, don't missed this stellar performance
In the east African Swahili language, the phrase ‘tuko pamoja’ means ‘we are together,’ indicating a shared sense of purpose or motivation. Pamoja is a fitting title for Etana’s stunning eighth album as the Grammy-nominated Jamaican singer brings together a stellar cast of collaborators from Africa, Europe, Hawaii, and The Caribbean, bridging the divides of the birthplace, language, and musical genre. Etana produced the album, wrote/co-wrote all but one of its 14 tracks, and is releasing it on Freemind Music, her label with manager/husband Andre Morris.
From her playful romantic exchanges with dancehall’s World Boss Vybz Kartel on “Baby-O” to conveying the cool “Jamrock Vibes” with Sicily’s Alborosie, from cautioning potential suitor Ghana’s Stonebwoy ‘if you wanna be my lover, come at me “Proppa”’ to celebrating Jamaica’s sound system sessions with Damian “Junior Gong” on “Turn Up Di Sound,” each of the featured artists’ distinctive musical personalities complements Etana’s soaring, dynamic vocals.
