The Swim Across America Long Island Sound chapter kicked off its summer fundraising season at the NYAC Travers Island on July 11 with swimmers ranging in age from four to their 80's raising approximately $19,000 for local cancer research, prevention and treatment. Proceeds from the swims will support the Swim Across America research lab, Dr. Luis Diaz and the MSK Kids Department of Pediatrics at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center; pediatric oncology research at Morgan Stanley Columbia University Medical Center; and patient services with Cancer Support Team.
The NYAC fundraiser is one of seven Swim Across America Long Island Sound pool and open water swims taking place in Westchester this summer. The 29th annual open water swim will take place in Larchmont on Saturday, July 31, from 6 a.m. to noon.
