LONG BEACH, NY — MF Doom will be immortalized on East Hudson Street, between Long Beach Boulevard and Riverside Boulevard, as the street will be renamed "KMD – MF DOOM Way" on Saturday. MF DOOM, whose real name was Daniel Dumile, spent his formative years in Long Beach after being born in the U.K. "His hip-hop lyricism represents some of the culture's best linguistic metaphors, garnering intergenerational and interracial admiration. His life and art symbolize the resilience we need in our present context," Dr. Patrick Graham, member of the Committee and author of the petition, said. In the late 1980s, alongside his brother, Dingilizewe "DJ SubRoc" Dumile and Alonzo "Onyz the Birthstone Kid" Hodge, DOOM launched his career in Long Beach forming the group KMD. MF DOOM developed his hip-hop and stage persona, incorporating inspiration from cartoons, comic books, food, and a mined sampling of sounds from his youth. Works such as "Take Me to Your Leader," "MM...FOOD", "Madvillainy," solidified him as a hip-hop icon. City of Long Beach representatives and residents could not be prouder to acknowledge his artistry. "MF DOOM left an indelible mark on the music industry and on the lives of people across the globe," Long Beach City Manager Donna Gayden said. "Long Beach is proud to bestow this honor in his memory and proud that he [once] called our City home."
