TOMS RIVER, NJ — As concerns rise about transmission levels and rising infections of the delta variant of COVID-19, authorities are urging people to start wearing masks again when they're indoors. Those urgings have not turned into mandates in New Jersey, but parents and school officials who have been pushing the state to leave the decision up to local officials have been nervous that Gov. Phil Murphy will mandate them in schools again. Toms River schools officials say they are staying with the plan to make masks optional for the fall.
