CONCORD, NH — It has been a blustery day in some parts of New Hampshire with breezes (but little rain, which is fine, at this point) but some flood warnings. If you are in low-lying areas, please play it safe and be careful in the rivers this weekend. They are bound to be brisk and swollen. Check out this photo gallery posted on WMUR-TV for some of the flooding and storm damage. It looks like a pretty good weekend … until Sunday night. So enjoy it while summer is still here. Here is everything going on in New Hampshire right now. Gov. Vetoes Primary Move; School Content Bill Gov. Chris Sununu vetoed two bills on Friday. One was a bipartisan proposal, with bipartisan opponents, too, to move the state's primary from September to the first Tuesday in August. The governor noted in his veto message that Secretary of State Bill Gardner, who is a Democrat, opposed the bill, too, saying it caused more problems than solutions. Sununu said, holding the primary in the middle of the summer, during vacation season, might depress turnout. State Sen. Donna Soucy (D-Manchester) chastised the governor for the veto, saying everyone worked on the law extensively. "Despite the Governor's statement to the contrary, states that have made similar changes to their primary date have seen similar or increased voter turnout," she said. "It is disappointing that rather than working to improve upon our election system, the governor would instead chose to ignore the will of the voters, and put New Hampshire at risk of being out of compliance with federal law." Another bill dealt with requiring financial literacy instruction to an adequate education definition. The governor said the proposal added, "important concepts" that would help students. However, after speaking with Frank Edelblut, the commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Education, they both agree language in the bill needs clarity. Sununu said the education department would work with the Legislature to correct the issues. California Serial Killer Questioned In Unsolved NH Cases A New Hampshire Attorney General investigator confirmed to the Union Leader this week that Rodney James Alcala, the "Dating Game Killer," was previously questioned but ruled out as a suspect in a number of missing person cases in the Granite State during the 1970s. He lived in New Hampshire and New England during the mid-1970s. Cops Warn About Phone Scams Again Phone scams are becoming more common in New Hampshire and law enforcement wants residents to be protected. The scams come in all forms — including convincing stories; claims of being police or an attorney; threats of fines and bail; all involving the transfer of money or gift cards from the victim to the perp. Heather Hamel, the public information officer for the Manchester Police Department, said on Friday police recommend anyone asked for this information to hang up and call the police. If a gift card is purchased and given, make sure you call the company where you got the gift card to cancel the order immediately. F-Word Anti-Biden Sign Update Officials in Bethlehem said this week that a local ordinance prohibiting obscene signs cannot be used to ban a large anti-Biden sign with the f-word, according to the New Hampshire Union Leader. Former YDC Employees Indicted Ten former NH Youth Detention Center employees have been indicted on a number of charges including rape, accomplice to, and felonious sexual assault, according to ManchesterInkLink.com.
