SOLANO COUNTY, CA — As students return to in-person learning this fall after more than a year out of the classroom amid the coronavirus pandemic, The Salvation Army and Walmart want to make sure local children have the supplies they need to feel confident and be successful this school year. For the third year in a row, The Salvation Army is holding school supply collection drives at more than 4,500 Walmart locations across the country. In the North and East Bays, there are 12 Walmart stores participating, including in Solano County. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Aug.6-8, shoppers can leave new, donated school supplies in branded collection bins inside participating Walmart stores. The most needed supplies are colored pencils, three-ring binders, spiral notebooks, pocket folders, safety scissors, No. 2 pencils, flash cards, rulers, and pencil sharpeners. Shoppers can purchase school supplies such as the ones above and drop them in bins at participating Walmart stores Aug. 6-8. (Walmart & The Salvation Army) Donation bins will be set up inside four Walmart stores in Solano County*: 235 E Dorset Drive, Dixon2701 N Texas St., Fairfield350 Walters Road, Suisun City1501 Helen Power Drive, Vacaville * The national campaign runs Aug. 6-8 although days may vary by location. "Walmart and The Salvation Army have collaborated for more than 30 years with a common goal: meet the need in their local communities," Jarosz said. "Supporters like Walmart help The Salvation Army serve more than 23 million Americans each year through a range of social services to help them overcome poverty and economic hardships."
