UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — The Met, the 92nd Street Y and more than a dozen other Upper East Side organizations have gotten emergency relief grants from the federal government, according to a recent update — though other venues may still be waiting. Nearly $40 million have gone to Upper East Side establishments as part of the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant — a component of last December's stimulus package also known as Save Our Stages. Though the $16 billion program has been a lifeline to many venues that lost out on months of revenue during the pandemic, it was also plagued by an initially slow rollout. As of Monday, just $7.6 billion had been distributed, leaving lots of money left to be claimed, according to a report by the Small Business Administration. On the Upper East Side, three recognizable places received the maximum $10 million grant: the Guggenheim Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the 92nd Street Y. Behind them at $4.8 million was the Park Avenue Armory, trailed by the Asia Society at $1.4 million. Near the bottom of the list, meanwhile, were some smaller organizations like Musica Viva, a choir based at All Souls Church on Lexington Avenue, which received $54,600, and the Park Avenue Chamber Symphony, which got about $24,800. But some prominent names are absent from the list. The Frick Collection, which opened its temporary home on Madison Avenue in March, has not received any funding; it did not immediately respond to questions about whether it had applied for grants. The Jewish Museum on Fifth Avenue also does not appear, but a spokesperson told Patch that it did not apply for funds because it did not meet the criteria.
