Chocolate Lab Needs a New Home

Description

We rescued our chocolate lab mix about a year and half ago and we believe he is 2 years old now. He was professionally trained and listens fairly well. He knows most basic commands, sleeps quietly at your feet and only barks when warranted. Unfortunately, we recently had an instance where a small dog (who we knew already) came into our yard and took his bone. He reacted in a violent manner and now my children are traumatized. The small dog is ok, but did need emergency care. I think the best home would be one where he has human companionship and doesn't have to compete for bones or treats with others. He's very loyal, calm and loving to humans, but barks whenever other animals approach our house. He'd be a great dog if you were looking for security. We have another 7 month old lab that he gets along well with. But, we are concerned his treat and bone aggression will increase. Most importantly, the health, safety and happiness of our children is on the front end of this issue. We've discussed this incident with professional trainers and they do believe it is fixable. But our children are feeling unsafe around him now. It's with a heavy heart that we need to re-home him. We did a DNA test for him and he is 50% lab and a mix of various dogs including 12% Akita, 12%Chow Chow and the remaining is various breeds.
