House call? Ride on mower won't start backfires

Briggs and Stratton Craftsman LT1000 won't start. Backfires and just spins. Sat for two years due to this. I remember at one point I may have hit a root and stalled it but started and ran. Not sure how many times it was a couple years ago since I tried starting it now. Has new filter, spark plug, oil change and battery. I am old man on a fixed income. What do you think?
