The Brinkley Family Memorial Lecture Series returns to Slover Library, bringing three renowned authors to Norfolk, Virginia to discuss their books on this year's theme: "The Passion of Grit and Determination." The third lecture of the 2021-2022 season features Jeff Goodell, author of The Water Will Come: Rising Seas, Sinking Cities, and the Remaking of the Civilized World. Investigative reporter Jeff Goodell is a prominent expert on climate change and energy policy. His newest book is an immersive look at the global crisis of rising oceans. Steeped in scientific research and on-the-ground reporting, The Water Will Come is written in the tradition of environmental classics like The World Without Us. Goodell is a contributing editor at Rolling Stone and the author of five books, including How to Cool the Planet: Geoengineering and the Audacious Quest to Fix Earth’s Climate, winner of the Grantham Prize Award of Special Merit; Sunnyvale, a memoir about growing up in Silicon Valley, which was a New York Times Notable Book; and Big Coal: The Dirty Secret Behind America’s Energy Future.
