Description

Boats made entirely out of cardboard being raced around a pond for cool trophies, how fun is that?! United Way is having its 3rd Annual Great Cardboard Boat Race on August 28, 2021 at Teague Park pond. We are partnering with City of Longview, AEP Swepco and Smurfit Kappa and UT Tyler Longview Center for a community awareness opportunity for boat teams and participants to enjoy some great family fun while impacting the community. This year’s theme is "Up, Up & Away". It’s all about getting together with your co-workers, teammates, and others in the community to have fun and work toward a common goal. The money raised during the Cardboard Boat Races will be used to fund programs that are supported by Greater Longview United Way. The money will be raised through personal donations, entry fee donations, and corporate partners. Saturday will be a family friendly event open to the public, with the first race starting at 8:30 a.m. and continuing throughout the morning. All boats are made entirely out of cardboard with a crew of at least two. Crews are encouraged to wear costumes and/or follow our theme into their boat design. Bring a chair, come out and enjoy and see whose boat will really float! Team entry is available at http://www.longviewunitedway.org/boatrace Team entry is $200.
