Salem's Derby Street Repaving Project To Resume Monday

SALEM, MA — Those traveling near Derby Street in Salem have a brief respite from the road work before the repaving project resumes on Monday. The milling operation was completed on Thursday and the road will be open through the weekend. The contractor is scheduled to be back Monday when on-street parking will again be off-limits. Next week's work should keep the road open for traffic on Monday and Tuesday while work is done along roadway edges. But on Wednesday detours will be required for structure work in the middle of the road. Waste and recycling collection will take place as scheduled. Starting Aug.. 10, the final paving will take place. There will be no parking and road closures during paving operations. Salem Ferry terminal access will be through Becket Street with the exception of the necessary asphalt cooling period — which typically takes between one and two hours.
