Pandemic 'Heroes' To Lead Marlborough 2021 Labor Day Parade

MARLBOROUGH, MA — Marlborough's 2020 Labor Day parade was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic — but the event will return in 2021 honoring the people who ushered the city through the pandemic. At an event Thursday, Mayor Arthur Vigeant named "Marlborough's Community Health Heroes" as the grand marshals of the 2021 parade. Those heroes include workers at UMass Memorial's Marlborough Hospital and the Marlborough Board of Health. Marlborough's annual Labor Day parade is one of the largest in New England, and dates back to the 1950s when the city was recovering from another global crisis — World War II and the Korean War. The 2021 parade will be the city's 69th after the 2020 event was skipped. The 1.7-mile parade begins near the intersection of Pleasant and Lincoln Street and snakes through the downtown area before ending near Route 85/Bolton Street. The parade will begin Sept. 6 at noon.
