Craig Cipriano Steps Into MTA Interim President Role

NEW YORK CITY — MTA has a new interim New York City Transit president, just one day after the current interim president announced she is stepping down. Craig Cipriano will replace the outgoing Sarah Feinberg, acting MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber announced Friday. Cipriano, a Brooklyn native, has been president of MTA Bus Company and senior vice president of New York City Transit's Department of Buses since 2019. His appointment takes effect July 31. "Growing up in Brooklyn I knew firsthand how important the B42 bus and L train were to the people in my neighborhood, but I never dreamed I would one day have the honor of running New York City's world class transit system," Cipriano said in a statement. "I am excited to return to my subway roots where I began and lead the agency at this critical juncture as we work to bring ridership back and support the city's recovery — building upon the improvements we have already made." Demetrius Crichlow, who is the Acting Executive Vice President of Subways, has also been promoted to Senior Vice President of that department. He begins his new role immediately. "I strongly believe that the subway system is a powerful force for equity in New York City and I am grateful for the opportunity to help move the department forward alongside Craig and Janno," said Crichlow, who has worked with the MTA since 1997. "The men and women who work for the Department of Subways are dedicated, committed professionals with real expertise and I am eager to work hand-in-hand with them." On Thursday, Governor Andrew Cuomo promoted Lieber to the dual role at the top of the authority. The governor has proposed splitting the MTA's head role in two and appointing Feinberg as chair.
