Description
Learn about the men and women who kept the Ringwood Manor estate running on this outdoor walking tour. The employees of Ringwood Manor were the backbone of the estate. Staff positions included not only the household servants, but dozens of people who worked on the property to keep the 22,000 acre estate running. This 1 hour walking tour will explore the numerous paid positions like dairy maids, farmers, coachmen, and of course iron workers. Details about known employees will be shared along with vintage images. Offered on select dates at 1:00pm throughout the year. Tour is FREE. State Park parking fee for entrance to park still applies: $5 for in-state residents & $7 for out-of-state residents. Tours limited to 20 people. Steady rain cancels. Advanced registration through Eventbrite is highly recommended. Walkups will be permitted if space allows. In registering for this history program, you agree to maintain social distancing protocols (to the extent possible) from individuals attending the program that are not within your family/party. If you are feeling ill the day of your registered program, please do not attend. It is highly recommended that participants wear sturdy walking shoes, weather appropriate clothing, and may wish to use sunscreen or bug spray. Also, while we love having dogs in the park, we do not allow them on the walking tours as we cannot anticipate if another attendee has serious allergies or phobias. We apologize for any inconvenience. Ringwood Manor is a designated National Historic Landmark located in northern New Jersey. The site was the summer home of the Cooper & Hewitt family, owners of the Cooper & Hewitt Iron Company during the 19th century. Donated to the State of New Jersey in 1938, the home is fully furnished in all the original contents of the family and includes more than 1,000 acres of historic gardens and landscapes. The site hosts numerous public tours, events, and programs throughout the year.
