Description
We are looking to re-home a 2 year old male, Great Pyrenees. Maximus is a neutered, indoor/outdoor family pet. I believe he would do well learning and potentially becoming a Livestock Guardian Dog. However, he doesn’t have any experience yet. He is very loving but has shown signs of ranking aggression toward younger men and boys. Ideally, he needs someone with vast knowledge of the breed and should go to a home with a fenced yard w/ acreage and preferably access to his owner(s)… a small farm even?
We hoped that having him neutered would‘ve relaxed his energy and aggressive tendencies. Unfortunately, it didn’t change his attitude when it comes to ranking aggression. He weighs 150lbs, so he is WAY WAY up there on the size spectrum. I’m the person who produced his litter. His original owner returned him to me for the reasons listed above. I offered to find him a family who could provide him more space and more time to train him. I recommend an owner without children for the sake of Max AND his new family.
If you are familiar with the breed, you know that barking is their main tool in warding off predators, so they bark regularly.
He really has a precious personality and loves family. He loves to go on walks/trails (but he pulls) and the beach. He would get along very well with a female family dog.
Please consider your interest carefully and familiarize yourself with the breed. Our hope is that he finds a loving home with a family who cares for him deeply and for LIFE.
