The Barn Lead is an integral part of Blackbird Farm. This position is responsible for all student and staff Barn Programming at Blackbird Farm. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING: * - Oversee and assist with every aspect of student and staff animal programming - Develop & implement student programming with a focus on equine therapy and riding skills - Order and maintain supplies related to specific responsibilities - Coordinate with Program Facilitator to schedule and lead staff training rides - Coordinate with program Facilitator on all daily scheduling and programming concerning the Barn - Communicate all animal training needs to Equine Specialist - Support in feeding of all barn animals and cleaning of stalls and pens - Support students in experiential learning activities and create a safe environment for them KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: - Must be able to lift 60-80 lbs - Knowledge of horses and riding - Knowledge of livestock and chickens - Equine therapy experience preferred EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS: - Nationally certified program training in horse riding - Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of equivalent experience in the equine industry (post high school) preferred - Experience working with horses and as a wrangler - Passionate about working with at risk youth
