HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — A Hackettstown man has been charged and is in the Warren County Correctional Center, after hitting a Hackettstown Police officer and hurting him. The Hackettstown Police Department reported in a news release on Thursday that the unidentified officer was hurt when he had heard screaming from a car as it was stuck in traffic around Main Street and Grand Avenue at about 6:45 p.m. on July 22. Police say that Ronald D. Mulford, 49, got out of the vehicle and attacked the officer as he was coming to check on the car's driver and passengers, Mulford - a Hackettstown resident - among them. Hackettstown's officer sustained injuries on his forearms and left elbow after Mulford reportedly assaulted the officer. Mulford, who was charged with aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, simple assault and disorderly conduct, is expected to stay in the correctional facility, until his court appearance. Hackettstown Police Department's spokesperson, Sgt. Darren Tynan said that aggravated assault to a police officer is a third degree charge, which could result in up to five years in New Jersey State Prison. Questions or comments about this story?
