JOLIET, IL — One of the Joliet area's more popular classic rock musicians, Tom Tynan of the band called Tynan, did not have to report to federal prison this week as scheduled. Tynan's federal sentencing for his Joliet bank robbery conviction was delayed for a third time. Back on June 23, 2020, Tynan pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery. The Joliet man who lives in the 2600 block of Par Four Lane robbed the First Midwest Bank and was captured by Joliet police later that same night. The bank robbery arrest brought an end to Tynan's rock band. According to federal court documents, Tynan, who is now 61, was first supposed to surrender to the Bureau of Prisons to begin serving his 36-month federal prison sentence on May 28. However, on May 24, Tynan was admitted to St. Joseph's Hospital in Joliet for chest pains and an elevated blood pressure of 245/145, and he was put under the care of cardiologist Dr. Robert Elgar. On May 25, Tynan's federal public defender filed a motion to extend Tynan's report date to the Bureau of Prisons from May 28 to June 28, and the federal judge granted the motion. On June 21, Tynan was again admitted to St. Joseph's Hospital because his blood pressure was 240/130. During this visit, his kidneys were involved in his cardiovascular issues and he was put under the care of nephrologist Dr. Rishikesh Morey. On June 22, his counsel filed a second motion to extend Tynan's report date from June 28 to July 28 and the judge granted the motion. Then, on July 14, Tynan had another health setback, according to Johanna M. Christiansen, assistant federal public defender. "Mr. Tynan was again admitted to St. Joseph's Hospital with high blood pressure, dilated aortic root, elevated troponin, hypertensive urgency, and acute kidney injury," court records state. "He was in the intensive care unit for a portion of his hospital stay. He was discharged on July 22, 2021, and told to schedule follow up appointments with Dr. Morey, Dr. Elgar, and a new pulmonologist, Dr. Christopher Ochoa, within one week of his discharge. Mr. Tynan is in the process of setting up those appointments now but they cannot be completed prior to his current report date of July 28, 2021." According to court records, Tynan's sentencing has now been postponed until Aug. 27.
