Press release from the Contra Costa County Public Library: Dear Valued Library Patron, July 29, 2021 My name is Liz Fuller and I'm the Library Services Manager. I am filling in for County Librarian Alison McKee this month as she enjoys some time off. Last week, my youngest son started his senior year of high school. I've been flooded with memories of back-to-school nights, sometimes tearful homework sessions, and science projects.  Throughout his school years, I remember turning frequently to the library's website to access resources that made our lives much more bearable. We used Explora for homework assignments, Learning Express to practice for the SATs, and the library's DMV practice guides to help him get his driver's license. I wanted to share with you some of the valuable tools available to your family free with your library card. Brainfuse Trained tutors are available for students of all ages to assist with academic courses, writing and skill-building every day from 1 - 10 p.m. This service is free and also offers support for adults needing help with resumes or learners who speak Spanish. Britannica School A three-part multi-subject encyclopedia with portals for elementary, middle, and high school students. Explora Find age-appropriate articles and resources for students in elementary, middle and high school. The easy-to-browse categories are organized by popular topics, and include full-text magazines, research papers, newspapers reference books and topic overviews. Learning Express Library Features online tutorials, practice tests, and eBooks to help students with skill building in reading, writing, math, and basic science. This service also offers college and grad school entrance test prep, GED test prep, and more. Library Learning Tools Library staff have created several short videos designed to help students, teachers, and caregivers use some of the Library's most useful online resources more easily. Learn how to use the catalog, check out an eBook, research a topic and more. Pick and choose which resources sound like they would be most helpful to you. Tumblebook Library This resource features interactive, animated stories, puzzles and games. There are stories by well-known authors, original stories, classic fairy tales, puzzles and games in English, Spanish, French and a mobile version. I hope these tools can help supplement teaching and learning in your homes. Have a wonderful school year. Sincerely, Liz Fuller Library Services Manager This press release was produced by the Contra Costa County Public Library. The views expressed here are the author's own.
