Description
Acoustic ( I love acoustic ) / Electric ( I also love electronic toys---effects, guitar synths, etc.) Guitarist, looking for "jam band" ( String Cheese Incident, select live Phish, Camel, etc. ) /types who focus more on originals than covers. Although covers are absolutely welcomed ( I have a ton of covers I want to do ), I do NOT....want to be : [A] a "COVER" band; or [B] a TRIBUTE BAND ( 70's Stones, Zeppelin, Skynrd, Tom Petty, ZZ Top / 80's Van Halen or Prince / 90's etc.), where members "dress up like the people they're imitating". Not even mildly interested in those types of bands. I find them silly. Maybe half covers half originals, or whatever we feel comfortable doing ( 60/40; 70/30, etc.). More than likely mostly covers at first just to get a jamming groove going, and adding originals as we go. Prefer free-flowing improv over cookie-cutter repeat performances of some previously-recorded versions. I know someone who was actually dissatisfied with an entire Eric Clapton concert because Eric played all of his songs slightly, or even drastically, different from the original studio versions---as though a concert should be an exact replica of the studio versions on the CD's or vinyl, right down to every note on every solo. Can you imagine playing every song exactly the same way every performance? I would get sick of that song rapidly, and playing it would no longer bring joy, but misery --- e.g., "not this frickin' song again..." as I pray for a sudden power outage. I'm not interested in satisfying that "concert-version-should-be-the-same-as-the-studio -version" demographic in the crowd; I want to entertain those who WANT to hear an impromptu-created, improvised performances. Styles preferred : ROCK of 50's, 60's, 70's, some 90's, 2000's, and 2010's. BUT...............NO 80's..............PUNK [Sex Pistols, The Clash, Ramones, Romantics], NEW WAVE ( Devo, B-52's, The Tubes, The Cure, Duran Duran ) HAIR METAL ( Van Halen, Metallica, Megadeth, Poison, Motley Crue), and DANCE POP (Prince, Madonna, Michael Jackson, ). Well, you get the idea. of what I'm trying to avoid. I once almost walked off stage at a gig at Tailgaters on 95th and Cicero, and instead abdicated ALL my guitar playing duties, and just turned my volume down to zero and told the rhythm guitarist, "I don't play shit like this." when the singer announced the next song to be The Romantic's "What I Like About You". Yep, it pissed off the vocalist enough to ask that another guitarist sit in on the next set, and I was only too happy to dodge that bullet of having to play more songs I despise. My main weakness is that I'm not a singer---not even backup vocals. So, I would not be likely to volunteer any singing duties. My own personal recordings DO have me singing the vocal tracks, but that's only because I didn't have enough money to hire a professional to sing them. So, I sing them, myself, and that kind of tarnishes an otherwise decent guitar performance, having to listen to less-than-ideal vocals at the same time. But my guitar playing is good. I do have samples of my playing if interested.
