Description
FRAMINGHAM, MA — The number of active coronavirus cases in Framingham rose to 43 on Wednesday, more than double the 18 active cases reported one week ago, according to data released by health officials.
The rise in local cases comes as the COVID-19 Delta variant has caused a larger rise in cases across Massachusetts. Framingham health officials on Wednesday advised unvaccinated residents to continue wearing masks in public — and people who are vaccinated may also want to continue wearing masks, the city's update said.
Apart from the rise in active cases, Framingham's coronavirus case rate jumped to 4.98 per 100,000 people (measured over 14 days). One week ago, the case rate was at 1.86 per 100,000 people.
Statewide, the seven-day average of new cases hit 407 on Wednesday. One month ago, the seven-day average was down around 70. Gov. Charlie Baker has said he is not going to begin imposing restrictions, although the Centers for Disease Control has advised some counties across the U.S. to go back to masking rules — five of those counties are in Eastern Massachusetts, but not Middlesex County.
