Description

PUYALLUP, WA — The Pierce County Sheriff's Department confirms that deputies have arrested the suspect from Wednesday's standoff in Puyallup. In that incident, deputies had been called to 2200 block of 120th Street E, on reports that a man had threatened a family member with a gun. Once they arrived, however, the suspect barricaded himself inside the house and refused to leave, the Sheriff's Department said. Starting at around 10 a.m., surrounding roads were blocked off, and the public was asked to avoid the area. That is, until 11:15 a.m., when deputies withdrew. The Sheriff's Department says they were unable to contact the suspect, and decided the best course of action was to simply leave and investigate the incident further. That investigation continued until early Thursday afternoon, when the Sheriff's Department sent a group of deputies, the Crisis Negotiation Team, and SWAT team to the home with a warrant. The department said the warrant included probable cause for several more crimes. The negotiators then contacted the suspect, who agreed to surrender peacefully. Today our SWAT Team, Crisis Negotiators and Detectives returned to the residence near 2200 120th St E with a warrant and further probable cause for more crimes. The negotiators successfully contacted the suspect and got him to surrender. Great work! pic.twitter.com/uBiR43uUet— Pierce Co Sheriff (@PierceSheriff) July 29, 2021
