Towson University, in partnership with University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center, will host a COVID-19 vaccine clinic at the South Campus Pavilion on August 2. St. Joseph's is offering free, walk-in vaccinations for TU students, faculty and staff between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Monday, August 2 at South Campus Pavilion at TU. This free clinic will feature the Pfizer vaccine. Appointments are not necessary. A second shot will be administered Aug. 23. A small supply of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will also be offered to those 18 and older for those interested Aug. 2. All vaccinations are limited to a first come, first serve basis and a parent must be present from registration through observation for anyone under the age of 18. As part of University System of Maryland requirements, all Towson University students, faculty and staff on campus this fall must be fully vaccinated, including any vaccine-specific waiting period following a vaccination, against COVID-19 by August 9, 2021. Vaccinations were available at St. Joseph's in June for TU community members. "We are so grateful to our partners at University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center for their collaboration in providing this opportunity for our campus community," said Towson University President Kim Schatzel, who serves as vice chair on the hospital's operating board of directors. "As we look forward to a full on-campus experience this fall, it is imperative for our Tigers to roll up their sleeves and be vaccinated." TU is planning for a return to full living, learning and working on campus this fall, and all faculty, staff and students on campus in the fall are required to be vaccinated against the virus that causes COVID-19. "We're honored to partner with our valued neighbor to ensure the health and well-being of the thousands of students, faculty members and staff at Towson University," said Thomas B. Smyth, MD, UM St. Joseph Medical Center President and CEO said earlier this summer. "Keeping TU strong and healthy is our privilege and these clinics will serve as a huge and vital step in reclaiming our community's well-being." TU is following the University System of Maryland mandate that all students, faculty and staff on campus must be vaccinated against the virus that causes COVID-19 prior to the start of fall 2021 term. Individuals should be fully vaccinated, including any vaccine-specific waiting period following a vaccination, by August 9, 2021. In support of the effort to encourage the entire community to be vaccinated against the virus that causes COVID-19, TU announced a new series of prizes to be randomly awarded to students, faculty and staff who have had their vaccination status verified. As of Friday, June 25, more than 395 million doses of COVID-19 vaccinations have been distributed nationwide, and at least 163.3 million people have been fully vaccinated in the United States. In Maryland, 77 percent of the population eligible for the vaccine have now been administered a first shot, and nearly 3.5 million Maryland residents are fully vaccinated.
